Mix and match
Jamie + Niraj came to us with a loose sense of what they wanted for their celebration: something un-stuffy, something vibrant that feels reflective of their shared identities and culture [his: Hindu; hers: Catholic] while mainly feeling spiritual + connected to their community. They both felt a bit meh about being in the spotlight so they were eager to find ways to find the flow and reflect back their community. The end result was leaning into their differences not away from it - mix and match those cultural traditions, play with ALL the color versus just one, and be unafraid of texture and opposite choices. They mixed Indian food with American pies and the West Wing theme song processional with a Beatles first dance. Their ceremony included a Mangal Pheras, a unity candle and one-word offerings from 5-7 friends. The event felt refreshing and honoring, which also maintaining a strong sense of identity for them both - as individuals and partners.
The entire affair was full of joy, love, and so much happiness. I don't plan on getting married again but I do plan on singing Modern Rebel's praises from the rooftops and recommend that EVERYONE I know getting married works with them. Run, don’t walk. They’re truly something special!
