Rebellions are built on hope
A love story made in the stars (wars). April + Erin met on OKCupid in Tokyo + immediately connected over their love for fanfiction + cherry blossoms. They like to say their love blossomed in Japan and took root in New York City - where they adopted their pups and made their home. In their almost eight year relationship, they faced many personal tragedies they wished to honor in their celebration. When they come to us, they spoke about navigating the wedding industry as a queer couple and as a couple also navigating grief - April had recently lost her mom. They decided to sprinkle “hopeful” moments throughout their event to bring their party back to the heart of it all. In addition to their sweetheart table, they also had a table for April’s mom, with family photos and heirlooms - her table was served the meal just like everyone else. In addition, they chose to incorporate lavender, April’s mom’s favorite flower, in the event design to celebrate and honor her legacy through every step of the event. Plus, their guest book was a tree with the branches offering the chance to hang paper ornaments with well wishes to the couple. Even with so many “hopeful” design choices - the event felt light, intimate and fun - just like their relationship, which has always served as the greatest hope of all.
