“In spite of the current political climate, we’re grateful to be able to come together and celebrate each other, queer love, and our chosen family” is what these two said was the most important part of their day.
Meet Katie + Dani… two Long Island rebels who’s love party was infused with so much emotion + intentionality. From personalized gratitude cards each guest was given for ceremony to the program glossary defining LGBTQ terminology, these rebels wanted to make sure everyone felt welcome and appreciated. And did we mention Katie ditched heels for Birkenstocks and that her wedding dress had pockets!? Yes please! Plus, their ceremony legit had us in tears with readings from Harry Potter and bell hooks because “true love is about work”, and ended with them vowing to keep each other as their “favorite person, super heroine, and sidekick” (we’re not crying, you’re crying…)
But the best part of it all? THE DANCE PARTY!! We’ve seen couples get down in our day, but these guests had some MOVES. And when queen Whitney Houston came on with “I Want to Dance With Somebody”, the room was bursting with couples of all kinds -- straight, queer, butch, femme, and some folks who exist outside of the gender spectrum completely -- dancing with somebody who loved them.
